“The BML identity had remained largely unchanged since 2007. At this point the agency was still based in Cheltenham, where it had been based since it began in 2001. A lot has changed since those early days and we’re not just talking about moving 180 miles from Cheltenham to our new home in Leeds. Although we still work with many of the same great clients we began with all those years ago (as well as a lot of exceptional new ones), the types of project they require and the way we tackle them has changed beyond recognition. Most importantly, we felt that the agency had undergone a maturing process over the years and it was about time our own image reflected the values, style and personality that make our agency what it is today.”

“The new BML logo is a heavily modified version of Bauer Bodoni Std 2 Black. Whilst we explored a Wide (note the capital ‘W’) range of concepts during the creative phases, we felt the classic lines and bold letter forms were the best reflection of our professional, no-nonsense approach and our love of modern, minimal typography.

Another reason we selected this route was because of its flexibility of use. The BML studio is a friendly and relaxed place and it was important to all the team that the identity did not make us feel stale, or unapproachable. The traditional serif font pays respects to our heritage as a company, but we were aware that on its own, the logo might feel a little austere. However, in combination with a vibrant, interchangeable colour palette, intriguing overlays and strong geometric patterns that take influence from both the Cheltenham and Leeds coats of arms, we think we’ve created an identity that embraces our love of high design, delivered with a playful edge.”

“Wherever possible, we have selected quality paper stocks for any printed material. Our business cards are produced in a range of contemporary colours, using two complimentary duplexed GF Smith Colorplan boards with gold foil applied both sides. Our letterheads and compliment slips are printed single colour both sides on GF Smith Colorplan Pristine White 135gsm.”
